List of 98 smart cities


Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu advised international and local investors to put their money on the Smart City Mission.Mr.Venkaiah Naidu released the list of 98 cities with the inclusion of 24 state capitals to be developed as smart cities.In this list, Uttar Pradesh stood in first place with 13 cities in smart cities list followed by Tamil Nadu with 12 cities.

List of smart cities released by the Government of India:

Hyderabad, Warangal, Vishakapatnam, Kakinada, Port Blair,Tirupati, Pasighat, Guwahati, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Biharshatrif, Chandigarh, Raipur, Bilaspur, Diu,Silvassa, NDMC, Panaji, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Dahod, Karnal, Faridabad, Dharmsala, Ranchi, Mangaluru, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Hubbali—Dharwad, Tumakuru, Davangere, Kochi, Kavaratti, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Sagar, Satna, Ujjain, Navi Mumbai, Nasik, Thane, Greater Mumbai, Amaravati, Nagpur, Solapur, Kalyan –Dombivalli, Aurangabad, Pune, Imphal, Shillong, Aizwal, Kohima, Bhubaneshwar, Rourkela, Oulgaret, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Udaypur, Kota, Ajmer, Namchi, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunveli, Dindivul, Thanjavur, Tiruppur, Salem, Vellore, Coimbatore, Madurai, Erode, Thoothukudi, Chennai, Agartala, Moradabad, Aligarh, Sharanpur, Bareilly, Jhansi, Kanpur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Varanasi, Ghaziabad, Agra, Rampur, Dehradun,  New Town  Kolkata, Durgapur, Bidhanagar,Haldia.

In the above 98 cities, 24 cities are state capitals, another 24 are business and industrial centers, 18 are culture and tourism areas, 5 are port areas and 3 are education and health hubs.

Cities not qualified for smart cities:

Nine cities are not qualified for being a smart city.Those are Bengaluru, Kolkata, Shimla, Puducherry, Daman, Itanagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Gangtok.
The Central government is going to give 48,000 crores in regular intervals in the next five years.Central government asked state governments to give another 48,000 crores.Totally 98,000 crores for this mission.
